04 - Rising Brook

"Rising Brook" offers an intimate look into the daily life of Rising Brook Community Fire Station, where I've proudly served as a firefighter since the summer of 2023. Through this collection of portraits, my aim is simple: to provide an authentic portrayal of the men and women who serve as retained firefighters. Often overlooked, these individuals demonstrate an unwavering commitment to their duties, facing challenges with resilience and determination.

Balancing firefighting with my photography studies, I embarked on a journey to document the dedication and camaraderie within our firefighting community. Many of us, including myself, juggle full-time jobs alongside our roles as firefighters. Seeking employment alongside my studies, I aimed to serve my local community and be part of a team that aspires to make a difference.

The job blurs the line between working hours and free time, becoming an integral part of everyday life. Through weeks of training and countless calls. I formed deep bonds with my fellow firefighters, who quickly became friends and family. The access this job afforded me served as a fascinating subject for photography, capturing the visual imagery of our daily experiences.

Through "Rising Brook," I hope to shed light on the often overlooked commitment of retained firefighters and increase awareness of their vital role in our communities. I extend my sincere thanks to my fellow firefighters for their cooperation and camaraderie throughout this endeavour. Their professionalism and willingness to share their experiences have been invaluable.

Rising Brook is presented in both a book and exhibited with prints.

The book is 29cm x 29cm printed on Papyrus LuxoArt Samt paper with 38 pages and a glossy hardcover.
